My roots
Our Austria

Young – A Mosaic of Diversity

Discover our cultural roots and contribute to our shared life in Austria.

Roots cards, a map of Austria and a shared mosaic bring children and young people into conversation. This creative project is designed for schools, educational institutions, youth centres and youth work. Participants with and without a migration background explore what shapes and connects them. An independent cultural workshop is also available for families.

For children aged 6–13 accompanied by an adult. This cultural workshop can be attended independently of the school project.

Around two hours, with age-appropriate activities and shared adult support.
Participation
All families are welcome. Association membership is not required.

What we discover together

Austria in everyday life

Favourite places, regional customs, dialects, music and personal memories bring our shared country to life.

Our own roots

Children choose people, places, words, traditions or hobbies that matter to them and create personal roots cards.

A shared artwork

Every child contributes. The school project creates a modelling-clay mosaic; the family workshop uses paper and colours.

Values and living together

Freedom, democracy and equal rights are explored through everyday examples. Children share their own ideas for living together respectfully.

What participants take away

  • Express personal roots and belonging through words or pictures.
  • Learn about Austrian everyday culture and regional traditions.
  • Listen, ask respectful questions and discover common ground.
  • Develop a personal idea for living together well and put it into practice with others.

Personal stories are shared voluntarily. Children choose what they want to show. Nobody is expected to represent a nationality, religion or culture.

Planning the programme together

ATZP Bildungs- & Kulturverein prepares the content, facilitates the activities and coordinates materials. Together with the host organisation, we agree the venue, group size, adult support and responsibilities. Creative activities require tables, paper, pens and a display area.

We use clear German and visual materials. Support needs, accessibility, supervision and child protection arrangements are agreed before delivery. Photos and personal contributions are published only with the required consent.

For public family events, the venue, date, available places, registration details and any participation fee are announced with the individual event.

A programme for your organisation

Would you like to run the project at your school, organisation or as a family event? Send us your preferred format, age group, group size and a possible timeframe. A short planning conversation helps us agree the content and scope before preparing an individual proposal.
